The LaLiga president warns of the danger of sustaining a fabricated narrative that harms the competition.

The reputational future of LaLiga and Spanish refereeing remains haunted by the Negreira case, an affair that president Javier Tebas describes as unacceptable but strictly confines to the period in which it occurred. He warns that inventing a present-day influence for Enríquez Negreira only serves to undermine confidence in the referees officiating matches involving FC Barcelona and other teams.

In making his case, Javier Tebas insists on separating the seriousness of past events from self-serving attempts to tarnish the competition in which clubs such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona currently play. The president stresses that LaLiga’s priority must be to protect the current competition from self-serving narratives that seek to perpetuate suspicion of referees indefinitely.

The roadmap outlined by Javier Tebas involves trusting the work of the courts and demanding accurate reporting to prevent the shadow of the former vice-president of the CTA from continuing to taint the competition. The big question for the future is whether the court ruling will be enough to ease tensions and restore institutional stability across Spanish football.
