Vinicius given four-match La Liga ban, to miss Camp Nou clásico
Vinicius has been banned for four La Liga matches after his red card against Villarreal on Saturday, ruling him out of next Sunday’s clásico at Spotify Camp Nou.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Disciplinary Committee issued two games for pulling the hair of Villarreal’s Saliba, which prompted the dismissal, and two more for an aggressive protest towards the referee.
He will also miss Sevilla’s visit to Chamartín and away games at Racing and Valencia.
The ruling can be appealed to the Appeals Committee and, ultimately, to the Administrative Court of Sport.
If the punishment is not reduced, he would not return to La Liga action until 22 November, when Real Madrid host Celta at the Bernabéu, the first home match for Mourinho’s side after the clásico.
The Disciplinary Committee, formerly known as the Competition Committee, applied the minimum sanction for each offence and rejected Madrid’s claim that the hair pull was accidental.
Madrid also argued the protest should be treated as part of the sending off, but the panel accepted the referee Isidro Díaz de Mera’s report, which said he continued to shout his dissent, moved towards the official with an aggressive attitude and had to be restrained by team-mates, with no specific phrases identified.
