During his appearance at the Portugal Football Summit, organised by the Portuguese Football Federation, FC Barcelona sporting director Deco<\/a> hailed Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho as \u2018one of the best coaches in history\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The 49-year-old former midfielder played under Mourinho at FC Porto, making over 100 appearances and winning several trophies, including the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Champions League.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Addressing the media, the Barcelona sporting director insisted that he was happy to see his former mentor being back in La Liga<\/a>, even if it was at a rival club.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s good to have him in the Spanish League, as an opponent he\u2019s more complicated, but I\u2019m happy,\u201d <\/strong>said Deco, as quoted by AS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Praising Mourinho as well as hailing Real Madrid as one of the best clubs in the world, the Bar\u00e7a sporting director added:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy for him, because I think he\u2019s one of the best coaches in history, he\u2019s at Real Madrid, with the best clubs in the world, it\u2019s good, it\u2019s a great challenge for everyone.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On Real Madrid\u2019s refereeing complaints<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

During the interaction, Deco was also asked for his thoughts about the refereeing in La Liga and the complaints being made by Mourinho and Real Madrid<\/a>, especially after their recent 2-1 derby defeat to Atletico Madrid.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Instead of directly addressing the matter, the Bar\u00e7a director insisted that they were only focused on themselves, while stating that the referees and the VAR are bound to make some mistakes every now and then.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t worry us. I think we have to look at ourselves,\u201d <\/strong>he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cObviously, there will always be controversial refereeing decisions, there will always be favorable decisions, sometimes for one team and sometimes for the other, and sometimes I don\u2019t think it\u2019s proportional.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Continuing, he added: \u201cI think it\u2019s something that referees lose; it can happen at any time. There\u2019s VAR, which came to correct many things, but at the same time, sometimes it doesn\u2019t. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIn short, controversial refereeing decisions will continue to exist; it\u2019s a historical thing in Spain, in Italy, and everywhere. In short, we\u2019re not going to be the ones to end up changing this. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI think transparency, that things are clear, is always important, but I don\u2019t get involved in that. We at Barcelona look at ourselves. We\u2019re always going to do what\u2019s within our reach, try to improve every day. I can\u2019t comment on what happens on the other side.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
