Arsenal<\/a> could be given the chance to sign Julian Alvarez<\/a> after Barcelona cooled their interest in signing the Atletico Madrid star, according to reports.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Gunners<\/a> completed the signings of Illan Meslier (free, Leeds), Piero Hincapie (\u00a334.5m, Bayer Leverkusen), Christos Tzolis (\u00a334.12m, Club Brugge), Bruno Guimaraes (\u00a375m, Newcastle) and Ezri Konsa (\u00a351m, Aston Villa) in the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Arsenal<\/strong><\/a> went for quality over quantity this summer and they will be disappointed not to have got a deal for another attacker over the line before the deadline.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Gunners were linked with Morgan Rogers, who eventually went to Chelsea in a deal worth \u00a3117m, as well as Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior and Atletico Madrid striker Alvarez.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Argentina international Alvarez looked like the biggest possibility in the final weeks of the transfer window after Atletico Madrid refused to sell the striker to La Liga<\/a> rivals Barcelona.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

However, it eventually became clear that his stance over a potential move to Arsenal wouldn\u2019t change as he continues to hold out for a future transfer to Barcelona.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

There has now been another twist, though, with The Standard<\/em>, citing Spanish media, revealing that<\/a> Barcelona \u2018have cooled their interest\u2019 in signing Alvarez.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Their success in using Raphinha centrally this season \u2018has reduced the urgency for the LaLiga champions to sign another forward\u2019 and Barcelona \u2018have shifted their focus towards other areas of the squad, particularly defence\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Standard<\/em> adds: \u2018The situation could give Arsenal an opportunity to revive their interest in January.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2018It is well documented that the Gunners were unable to convince Alvarez to move to north London during the summer, but a loan deal could now emerge as an option if his limited role at Atletico continues.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

After looking to force a move to Barcelona over the summer, Alvarez has received a hostile reception from his home fans during the early stages of the 2026\/27 season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The 26-year-old has not made a La Liga start under Diego Simeone yet this season and Alvarez\u2019s team-mate Marc Pubill hopes to see the best of the Argentina international soon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Pubil said: \u201cWe experienced it inside the dressing room in the same way as people did from the outside.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cJulian is a spectacular player, extremely good, and luckily we have him here. We\u2019re all going to enjoy having him. We will help him. Hopefully he gives us his maximum because he\u2019s a top player.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Atletico Madrid \u2018reacted inappropriately\u2019 over the summer \u2013 Laporta<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

Barcelona president Joan Laporta insists Atletico Madrid \u201creacted inappropriately\u201d over the summer as the Catalan giants chased a deal for Alvarez.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Laporta said: \u201cAtl\u00e9tico have shown their true colours. They acted as though they were the offended party \u2014 they had no way of justifying their attitude. We did what is normally done \u2014 as there were talks between the clubs, then I personally spoke with Gil Mar\u00edn.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe told me Juli\u00e1n wasn\u2019t coming because they didn\u2019t have an alternative\u2026 and then Atl\u00e9tico reacted inappropriately. I do not know what caused it. I can imagine why, but I have no proof.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWe were hearing reports that they would sell to anyone in the world except Bar\u00e7a. And that\u2019s the case\u2026 they were actually ready to sell Juli\u00e1n to any club in the world, but not to us.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
