Barcelona<\/a> manager Hansi Flick has confirmed that Joan Garcia<\/a> will miss the trip to Sevilla after the goalkeeper picked up a knee problem<\/a> against Racing Santander.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Garcia\u2019s absence leaves Flick with a choice between Wojciech Szczesny<\/a> and Dominik Livakovic, although the Barcelona manager refused to reveal who will start at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Flick explained that the decision to rest Garcia was made collectively after the medical team assessed the problem.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWe always make decisions together. When the doctors told us what was wrong with him \u2013 it\u2019s not very serious, but he needs to rest \u2013 we decided he should rest.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Barcelona boss was then asked whether Szczesny or Livakovic would get the nod. His response was deliberately brief.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll have to wait until tomorrow.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Szczesny\u2019s experience gives him an obvious advantage, particularly after his importance to Barcelona\u2019s La Liga<\/a> success last season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

At the same time, Flick was quick to stress that Livakovic is also regarded highly by the coaching staff.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s very important to have quality. I think that, with [Dominik] Livakovic, we also have a top-class goalkeeper \u2013 that\u2019s just the way it is.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cBut we won La Liga with Szczesny; it was largely thanks to him. For us, he\u2019s a fabulous goalkeeper with a wealth of experience.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Flick was also asked about his conversation with Szczesny after the Racing game, when the goalkeeper made a costly mistake. The German insisted that the incident had been addressed internally.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI\u2019ve already told him that we all make mistakes. He made a mistake and he\u2019s aware of it; it won\u2019t happen again.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI think that, right now, the situation with Tek is that he knows what our philosophy is. And Dominik has just played; he\u2019s adapting to our approach. And that\u2019s the issue.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cHe can play, he\u2019s ready to play, and that\u2019s what we have to consider. But we always look out for what\u2019s best for the team, not for one player.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Flick demands more from Barcelona<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

Barcelona return to Sevilla after losing at the same ground last season, but Flick believes his team has developed considerably since then.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI have to say, first of all, that I think we\u2019re now at a different level to where we were last year. But every match starts at 0\u20130 and Sevilla, especially at home, are playing very well.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThey defend man-to-man and will try to press in those situations. For us, it will be important to play with confidence and move the ball out wide.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Furthermore, the workload is another concern, with Barcelona facing a busy run of fixtures. Flick believes recovery has become central to maintaining the team\u2019s level.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWe\u2019re working on that every day. Recovery is a very important part of it and we\u2019re managing our workload very well. And that\u2019s what we need to keep doing. For me, that\u2019s the key.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got a lot of matches coming up and we need to keep recovery in mind.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Meanwhile, Karim Adeyemi also earned praise after his impressive recent displays<\/a>, with Flick highlighting both his qualities on the pitch and his character inside the dressing room.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cHe\u2019s very quick, but I don\u2019t know if he\u2019s the quickest player I\u2019ve ever coached. Alphonso Davies is similar. But he\u2019s a good lad, a good person, and he has a lot of respect for the dressing room.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cEveryone loves him dearly. His performances make things easier.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Flick added, \u201cI\u2019m really glad he chose us. I\u2019ll put my trust in him and I\u2019m 100% behind Karim. We\u2019ll see more matches like the one on Wednesday.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Rotation and dressing room environment<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, rotation will remain part of the plan, including for Gabriel Jesus, but Flick did not disclose his selection.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll see, but we have to keep making changes to manage each player\u2019s minutes.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cAs for whether he\u2019ll start, it was important for him to rest against Racing. For now, that\u2019s all I can say.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Flick was equally demanding when discussing the atmosphere within the squad, making clear that he does not believe Barcelona have reached their ideal level yet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s not just my job, but that of the entire coaching staff. We work together, with positive energy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He then offered a candid assessment of where that process stands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cTo be honest, I\u2019m not entirely happy with this at the moment because we\u2019re only just starting the process and there\u2019s room for improvement.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cBut right now I\u2019m not 100 per cent satisfied because we always demand a lot and we need to improve things.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Finally, Flick explained why Raphinha<\/a> has become so important to Barcelona\u2019s pressing structure while operating as the team\u2019s number nine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIf you look at the last two seasons, we always started the press with the \u2018number 9\u2019. And he has that hunger, that drive and that attitude to start the press exactly as we need him to.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cNot only is he excellent in attack, but he\u2019s also excellent in defence. He\u2019s the one who starts the press. As captain, he leads the way and the rest follow him,\u201d<\/strong> he concluded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
