Lamine Yamal<\/a> has made it clear that Barcelona<\/a> are not interested in playing down their Champions League ambitions this season, insisting the club must believe it can compete for European football\u2019s biggest prize.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In a new preview of Movistar+\u2019s Universo Valdano, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo<\/a>, the Barcelona forward described the team\u2019s growing obsession with the Champions League as a positive rather than a distraction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

For the teenage forward, anything less would be an unnecessary surrender of ambition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s good to be obsessed with the Champions League; it would be very cowardly of us not to believe that we\u2019re going to go for it this year.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Yamal welcomes Champions League obsession<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

Barcelona have entered the season with the European competition among their priorities, and Yamal believes that mentality can help in the latter stage of the season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI see it as a good thing; it makes me happy that people come into the dressing room thinking we can win it,\u201d<\/strong> he explained.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

There is one important distinction for the teenager, though. Confidence cannot become certainty.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI think the problem would be if someone went out and said we\u2019re going to win it no matter what, because you can never know that for sure,\u201d<\/strong> he explained.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Barcelona believe they have the quality<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

Yamal was particularly emphatic when explaining why the Champions League<\/a> should be such a prominent target for Bar\u00e7a.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI think being obsessed with winning the Champions League is a good thing; at the end of the day, we\u2019re Bar\u00e7a, and Bar\u00e7a have had periods where they were the best team in history and have won the Champions League.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got the squad to achieve it, and it would be very cowardly of us not to believe that we\u2019re going for the Champions League this year.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

La Liga<\/a> also in Barcelona\u2019s sights<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

On the other hand, the Champions League will not come at the expense of domestic ambitions, according to Yamal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIn fact, we\u2019re going for La Liga; we can win both La Liga and the Champions League.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Barcelona forward also stressed the importance of collective resilience when matches turn against them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWe have to act as a team and stick together through those twenty bad minutes,\u201d<\/strong> he concluded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
