Fulham arrive at Anfield on Saturday with a problem that is hard to dress up. Alvaro Arbeloa has lost his first three Premier League<\/a> matches as head coach, and now he takes his side to face a Liverpool team that look increasingly clear in what they are trying to do under Andoni Iraola.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

That matters. Early in a season, results can wobble while the structure settles. What coaches want is evidence, patterns, intensity, control. Liverpool showed plenty of that in midweek, and Arbeloa made it plain that he saw enough to know what is coming.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

There is an obvious subplot here. Arbeloa knows the place, knows the pressure, and knows Iraola well from their time around the Spanish national team and from years of crossing paths in La Liga<\/a>. Familiarity, however, does not make the task easier. If anything, it sharpens the point.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Arbeloa was direct in his assessment. \u201cI played with Andoni in the national team, and obviously we faced each other many, many times in La Liga,\u201d he said. \u201cI know him very, very well.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI saw him when he was the coach of Mirandes, Rayo Vallecano, and after in Bournemouth, so I know that he\u2019s an amazing coach, and I\u2019m not surprised that now he\u2019s the coach of Liverpool.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe has been doing amazing work here in the Premier League, and now in Liverpool you can see they are playing in the style that he\u2019s always playing with his teams, and of course it will be so difficult for us tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

That is the key point. Liverpool are beginning to resemble an Iraola side, high energy, front-foot defending, pressure high up the pitch, quick attacks when the ball is turned over. It is demanding football, but it is also recognisable football. Coaches notice that immediately.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Arbeloa then drilled into the detail. \u201cYou can see that they are improving, and they are now controlling better the games, and obviously I think they were a little bit unlucky in some games,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI watched the game against Atletico de Madrid, against a very tough team in the Champions League, and they did a very good game.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThey are so aggressive, they press high, they want to control the game, and of course, they are so, so, so quick in front, and have players with a lot of quality \u2013 top, top players, and I think a top squad.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThey are a team that put a lot of crosses, too, so we have been working on how we can defend them, and also we will have our chances for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Again, no mystery here. The aggressive pressing stands out. The speed in attack stands out. The volume of crosses stands out. Fulham know where the danger is likely to come from, which does not mean they can stop it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Alexander Isak<\/a> chance to punish winless Fulham<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

One player who will fancy this is Alexander Isak. He has started the season sharply and looks well suited to a side trying to win the ball early and attack before defenders can set themselves. Movement, speed, decisiveness, those are the qualities that thrive in this sort of structure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

For Fulham, the concern is simple. A team short on points is going to Anfield to meet a side growing in confidence and coherence. Arbeloa\u2019s respect for Liverpool is obvious. So is the scale of the challenge. If Liverpool bring the same intensity and control they showed in midweek, four defeats in four for Fulham becomes a very real possibility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
