Raphinha<\/a> has made a spectacular start to the campaign. After overcoming the injury he suffered at the World Cup, the Brazilian has once again become one of the most influential players in Hansi Flick\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He has scored eight goals in five competitive appearances \u2013 six in La Liga<\/a> and two in the UEFA Champions League<\/a>. He is also thriving in his new role on the pitch as a centre-forward, while taking on greater responsibility as captain.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Barcelona<\/a> want to extend his contract<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Given Raphinha\u2019s importance to the team, sporting director Deco confirmed on Thursday in an interview with RAC 1<\/a> that Barcelona want to extend the captain\u2019s contract.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Building on that, Ferran Correas of SPORT<\/a> reports that there have been no formal talks between the two sides yet, but discussions are expected to begin in the coming weeks. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

There is no urgency, with Raphinha currently contracted until 30 June 2028, but Barcelona\u2019s intention is to add another one or two years to his deal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The club wants his contract to reflect his status as one of the world\u2019s leading forwards.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The desire to continue the relationship is not one-sided<\/a>. Indeed, Raphinha is extremely happy in Barcelona and at the club, and would like to remain at the Spotify Camp Nou for many more years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The former Leeds United winger has, on multiple occasions, turned down lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia in order to continue at Barcelona, and his desire to succeed at the club remains stronger than ever.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The 29-year-old Brazilian winger has embraced the responsibility of captaining the squad and wants to play a leading role in a project that Bar\u00e7a hope can deliver both immediate and long-term success.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Raphinha also believes staying at Barcelona gives him the best environment to continue developing his game and competing for major honours.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Ballon d\u2019Or will have to wait after his controversial omission from the 30 nominees, but it is not something that currently dominates his thinking. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

His priority is Barcelona, where he believes his performances and chances of eventually winning the individual prize will be strongest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Raphinha is particularly happy with his relationship with Hansi Flick, who has made him Barcelona\u2019s first captain following the departures of Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He is also enjoying his new position as a centre-forward. The Brazilian has looked comfortable through the middle and is repaying Flick\u2019s faith with goals, assists and relentless work off the ball.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The attacker\u2019s outstanding start to the season has strengthened Barcelona\u2019s desire to extend his stay at the club, and the captain, too, is intent on signing the new deal and leading the club to greater heights.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
