Brayann Pereira sees red as West Brom go down to 10 against Derby<\/span>
\n <\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\nDerby made a confident start with Sam Szmodics causing problems but it was West Brom who took the lead in the 16th minute against the run of play.<\/p>\n
A fast counter opened Derby up and Jimmy-Jay Morgan whipped in a low cross from the left which Heggebo finished at the near post.<\/p>\n
After Derby’s previous home game ended in defeat to Swansea, it was important they did not concede again and Heggebo headed a decent chance over from eight yards in the 25th minute.<\/p>\n
But the visitors were rocked by the dismissal of Pereira in the 34th minute after he was shown a second yellow card for a clumsy challenge on Charlie Taylor.<\/p>\n
Pereira knew it was reckless given the earlier booking and pulled his shirt over his head as he left the pitch.<\/p>\n
It opened the door for Derby, who went close in the 43rd minute when David Ozoh flashed a low ball across the six-yard box with no white shirt able to turn it in.<\/p>\n
The start of the second half brought more problems for West Brom after Nolan Galves was injured in a challenge and had to be helped off the pitch.<\/p>\n
Derby were turning up the heat and should have equalised in the 68th minute but Salvesen headed over from Joe Ward’s cross.<\/p>\n
That was the best chance Derby had created since the break, which was a testament to the way West Brom had defended under sustained pressure.<\/p>\n
There was one last chance for Derby right at the end when Henrik Meister knocked the ball past Max O’Leary but Nat Phillips made a great clearance to sum up a performance full of grit and resolve.<\/p>\n

Derby boss John Eustace<\/strong>:<\/em><\/p>\n“Obviously frustrated but I thought we started the game really well and even when we went a goal down I thought the whole of the first half was a real positive from my point of view.<\/p>\n
“The lads did exactly what I wanted them to do and we had a couple of chances first half which we couldn’t put away.<\/p>\n
“Then in the second half West Brom defended really well and I’m disappointed that we couldn’t break them down.<\/p>\n
“We just need a bit more quality and the lads to step up and take responsibility for trying to make something happen. We got into some really good areas and we’ve got to keep working in that final third.”<\/p>\n
West Brom boss James Morrison<\/strong>:<\/em><\/p>\n“I thought we were pretty poor for the first 20 or 30 minutes, we caused our own problems really.<\/p>\n
“I think the sending off summed up our start really, we gave the ball away far too much and the one time we did string some passes together we scored.<\/p>\n
“It was important we got to half time and sorted a few things out. We limited them to crosses coming in and heading from 12 yards, we defended the box really well with everyone putting their bodies on the line.<\/p>\n
“That defensive unit of the whole team really when we were low was pretty impressive.<\/p>\n
“I felt it from day one really, after last season to now, it’s a credit to the lads and the new lads coming in and fitting in really well, hopefully that will spur us on.”<\/p>\n
