Harvey Elliott<\/a> made his debut for Valencia on Sunday after joining the LaLiga<\/a> side on loan from Liverpool for the season, but it wasn\u2019t an occasion to remember for the 23-year-old.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Having not even been in the matchday squad<\/a> for Andoni Iraola\u2019s first two league games in charge of the Reds, the attacking midfielder needed a move elsewhere in order to boost his chances of regular game-time this term.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Upon arriving in Spain last week, he spoke of being \u2018grateful<\/a>\u2018 for the opportunity to play with Los Ches, although his first appearance for Carlos Corberan\u2019s side ended in a 5-0 drubbing at home to Barcelona.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Elliott might be doubting what he\u2019d heard about Valencia<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

As per\u00a0Liverpool Echo<\/a>, there was audible booing from Valencia supporters towards the end of the game at the Mestalla, with club president Kiat Lim and owner Peter Lim being told to \u2018go home\u2019, and the players were called \u2018mercenaries\u2019 by a band of irate supporters outside the stadium.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Elliott said at his unveiling last week that Reds goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili had given him a taste of what to expect at the Georgian\u2019s former club, with the 23-year-old saying:\u00a0\u201cGiorgi told me the fans are incredible. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhen things aren\u2019t going well, they support you and are with you until the end; and when you win and play well, they\u2019re the best fans you could have.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Elliott has joined Valencia at a low ebb for the club<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

The on-loan attacker might now be questioning that insight from Mamardashvili, based on the anger from the Valencia faithful during and after the thrashing by Barcelona, with many home fans having left well before the final whistle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Elliott has come to a club who used to be regular Champions League participants but have become entrenched in mid-table in recent years, finishing between ninth and 14th in each of the last seven seasons and even flirting with relegation at some points.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The 23-year-old came off the bench in the 54th minute with his team trailing 3-0, and while he was unable to stave off a further Barcelona onslaught, he at least made an effort to contribute by winning both of his duels, making two tackles and completing 17 out of 22 passes attempted (Sofascore<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Valencia won\u2019t face teams at the same level as the LaLiga champions every week, although a wretched start to the season has left them bottom of the table with only one point from their opening four matches.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Elliott won the Premier League with Liverpool and is used to playing in the Champions League. He faces a rather different fight this time around, but if he can obtain regular game-time and help to instigate a turnaround in fortunes for his loan club, his 2026\/27 campaign would be regarded as a success.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
